Facilitated Work Group Summaries

PREFACE
As part of the work of the Leadership
Forum, participants joined a facilitated small-group work session to develop
recommendations for Federal, State and local action. These topics were discussed:
- Child Care Delivery Systems (2
groups)
- Professional Development (2 groups)
- Culture and Language
- Involving Families in Literacy
Efforts
- Language and Early Literacy in
Infant and Toddler Care
- Early Literacy in Informal and
Kith and Kin Settings
The following summaries provide
synopses of the work sessions, including recommendations. Please note that participants
discussed many recommendations during the sessions. The summaries in this notebook
provide highlights of these recommendations. In the instances in which two work
groups dealt with the same topic, those discussions were compiled as one summary
for each topic.
In addition, while some groups talked
about resources or initiatives related to their work session topic, not all
groups addressed these issues. For those that did, the discussion is included
in the summary. However, this notebook also includes a more comprehensive collection
of resources and State and local initiative information in the last section
of the notebook.
